Velopalooza BIKE WASH March 19th 2011

2065 E. 7th Ave (in lane) 11am-5pm Is your bike covered in winter muck and mud? Got squeaks and creaks? Want someone else to deal with it? Come on out to the Velopalooza bike wash and let us give your VELO some LOVE. We'll wash and lube your bike, plus give it a thorough mechanical inspection. This event is rain or shine (we'll set up tents). All work is done by donation in support of VELOPALOOZA See the Facebook Page for more details. Thanks to MEC for their donations to the BIKE WASH. Thank you also to VanCycle who will be providing mechanical inspections.

Fundraiser for the second annual Velopalooza bicycle festival features performances by LOUISE BURNS, Mode Moderne, Petroleum By-Product, and T. Nile. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are what make VELOPALOOZA happen! We have the following opportunities for volunteers: BIKE WASHES (April 16th and May 28th) We need volunteers to hang posters and hand out flyers, wash bikes, take donations, lube and mechanically inspect bikes. BIKE THE BLOSSOMS April 16th We need volunteers to hang posters and hand out flyers, and to work with our events committee at the guided blossom ride. VELOPALOOZA KICKOFF @ The Waldorf June 3rd We need volunteers to hang posters and hand out flyers. We will also need volunteers for the night of the event. FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE We need volunteers to help Velopalooza get funding and in-kind donations from sponsors. FREEZE YOUR BIKE OFF Ride Saturday

• under Burrard Bridge (downtown side) by the Vancouver Aquatic Centre parking lot, 1050 Beach Ave. Vancouver BC

• 12:00pm - 5:00pm, Meet anytime after noon for free coffee/hot chocolate - we will ride around 1pm

Saturday January 29th 2011. Meet at 12pm for free coffee/hot chocolate. Wear a costume and win prizes! The ride is about 12km on bike paths/lanes with very limited amount of on street riding. It will end at the Brixton Cafe (212 E. Georgia) where we can warm up and prizes for costumes will be awarded. Bring your kids! We will have a shorter ride option for them.

Velopalooza Poster Contest!

ATTENTION all artists and bike lovers alike:

Think you can create a poster that represents bike fun in Vancouver? We are accepting submissions for the 2011 Velopalooza poster. The chosen poster will receive an award, be posted around the city, be shown on the velopalooza.ca, and used as handbills.

Details:
* deadline is December 15th
* winner announced by December 17th
* prizes: $300 cash
$50 gift certificate to Vanprint.com

Email your submissions to info@velopalooza.ca with "Velopalooza poster" in the subject line. (if it's a big file, e-mail a link to download it from.)

Things that need to be included in the poster are:

* Velopalooza
* June 3rd-19th 2011
* velopalooza.ca
* Two weeks of Bike Fun
* a space for sponsor logos

Submissions should be a black and white or color rgb png, tiff, or jpeg (300dpi), and if chosen you should also be able to supply a vector format.

Design for 11x17 inches. but also be able to scale (with tweaks) to various sizes:

* poster (both 11 x 17in and 19x27in)
* handbill (4.5 x 5.5in)
* web site (approx. 250 x 313px)
* magazine cover (8.5 x 11in)

It's probably a good idea to keep text on separate layers, as the text may need to change a bit

Last year's poster was used in the Georgia Straight, on the cover of Common Ground, printed on t-shirts and can be seen on our website at www.velopalooza.ca. (and while you're there check out the upcoming rides.)

RIDE ON!!!

Velopalooza is 17 days of bikey fun. With 4 events, most organized by individuals, bikers of all persuasions are likely to find many events of interest. Nearly all events are free.
