If you found yourself caught in a snow drift before the November screening of You Never Bike Alone - good news.

You Never Bike Alone has been selected to play at the Moving Pictures Film Festival this coming Saturday at Tinsel Town cinema, Vancouver. You Never Bike Alone is a feature-length documentary looking at how Vancouver's cyclists are creating critical mass and changing the face of the city. Moving Pictures is a touring festival of Canadian film, comprising of features, shorts, and documentaries. The Vancouver leg of Moving Pictures 2007 runs from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th January. You Never Bike Alone will be screening on the Saturday night of the four-day fest.

Here's the screening details:

Show time: Saturday 27th January, 7pm.

Venue: Cinemark TinselTown, 88 West Pender, Vancouver. (See map). Cinema is in the International Village complex opposite Stadium Skytrain station.

Tickets: $9 ($2 discount to Moving Pictures members).

ECI Artist Talk Wednesday, January 24, 5pm

A sport utility vehicle is still fuming after having exploded. This hyper-realistic scene depicts a terrorist attack simultaneously incriminating the automobile industry, rampant consumerism and governments. This intervention will heighten the public's awareness of the perverse effects of these gas-guzzling, power-hungry vehicles.

ATTACK #15 gives us pause to reflect on our political and environmental position as Canadians. Where do we stand on Kyoto? We are being asked to follow through on our Kyoto Protocol commitments and to reflect on the damaging consequences of our dependency on black gold and its link to the state of peace in the world, notably in Iraq.

After fourteen high-impact performances in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Calgary and Ottawa, ATTACK #15 will take place in Vancouver. The public is invited to come to the scene of the crime 24 hours a day to discuss, film or photograph the exhibit, or to meet the artists between 10am and 10pm (10am-6pm on Sunday.) Many products stemming from the intervention will be available on the spot: a DVD of the manifesto, miniature replicas of ATTACK, stickers, and the Citizen's Statement of Offence.

Since 1997, L'Action Terroriste Socialement Acceptable, or ATSA, founded by artists Annie Roy and Pierre Allard, has been creating "urban interventions" which question society and its values. ATSA events rattle the urban landscape and open it up to societal debates. The company's very name is an aberration and is intended as a reflection of the themes motivating the pair's creations.www.atsa.qc.ca

grunt is an artist-run centre formed in 1984 in Vancouver. The grunt programs exhibitions, performances, artist talks, publications and special projects by contemporary Canadian and international artists. www.grunt.bc.ca

Special thanks to the Vancouver Art Gallery. On Friday, January 26, as part of the Vancouver Art Gallery's FUSE event, ATSA will present an exhibit about Attack #10 - a wall of some of the 10,000 statements of offence that were given out in August 2005 in Montreal to condemn huge vehicles and bad ecological attitudes around cars. This wall will be the screen for a video projection of the Attack series which has taken place from 2003 to the present. The Artists will explain the social and political impact their work and distribute a Vancouver statement of offence to everyone who would like to become a patroller.

PuSh will present an ATSA workshop at the Vancouver Art Gallery January 28, 2-5pm, room 302.

Perpetual Motion Roadshow #40 this Saturday, plus other choice selections

A belated happy Twelfth Night to all you fine folks. I would like to invite you this Saturday night, January the 13th, to the 40th grand installment of the Perpetual Motion Roadshow (nomediakings.net), that monthly small press indie culture DIY tour circuit. From 7-9 pm it runs at my favourite haunt, Spartacus Books (319 W. Hastings at Cambie, upstairs), featuring performances by a bevy of talented individuals: music from LISA DEWEY (San Jose); poetry from JANE ORMEROD (NYC) and SHANNON MAGUIRE, who I've been trying to put on a stage here for a year and a half; and (sit down) two different sets of PUPPETRY, one from J-RAY (last presented abbreviating Ionesco plays), the other from ex-Subgenius California street performer Janor Hypercleats aka MR. TV. Admission is by donation, and where else are you going to catch two sets of puppets this weekend?

a fundraiser for the Heart of the World tonight, Tuesday, January 9th! In short, the HotW is a venture to purchase the Raja theatre on the Drive and convert it into an accessible performing arts space / repertory theatre. To accomplish this, they need to raise a lot of money by the end of this week, ideally in the form of $200 refundable shares. If you can't free up such a massive chunk of change, perhaps you would feel better about putting $5 toward it in the form of admission to tonight's acoustic music performance / concert footage screening at the Media Club (695 Cambie) by Joel Flynn of the karmafia.

Alternately, OneCoolWord magazine is throwing a fundraiser at Cafe Deux Soleils (2096 Commercial Drive) tonight starting at 8:30 pm; entrance is $5 and includes performances by Jeffrey Laing, Gena Perala, The Wind Whistles and The Svelte Ms. Spelt. So many good causes, so little time.

(Yet) another fundraiser for a different cause goes on starting at 8 pm Friday, January 12th: the musical kids of Greenbelt hope to raise some money to record an album by performing music (back in the day we called these "concerts") in tandem with Collapsing Opposites, Wintermitts, OK Vancouver OK, Bedrooms of a Nation, and Sean Wesley Wood and the Vancouver Vipers. They ask $5, which is already less than a dollar per band, plus promise a dance party afterwards. The venue is located at 3596 Windsor at the corner of 20th, and they ask that you enter from the 20th Ave. entrance.

My last plug is for a sorely-needed additional venue for verbal outbursts -- poetry overflow runoff at the Main Street Slam, launching 8:30 pm January 30th at the Cottage Bistro (4468 Main). Rumour has it they aim to dispense with the decadent American Idol trappings of the mainstream slam scene, scrapping the tournament ladders and regulations, restoring unruly spoken word to a more primal form. Keep your ears peeled.
